Everest Base Camp 2013 announces first sponsor…

The Everest Base Camp 2013 Expedition Team are pleased to announce our first corporate sponsor: The Angus Moore International financial Group Ltd.

The company is one of the leaders in Wealth Management and Investment Consulting services. Founded in 2000, as one of the earliest independent financial consulting companies, Angus Moore is a member of the Professional Insurance Brokers Association, and it is regulated by the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority, which enables it to provide high quality professional services and a variety of financial products.

Angus Moore is focused on macro economic analyses, and actively explores the investment opportunities in emerging markets including Mainland China. In order to provide extraordinary financial service to each valued client, Angus Moore carefully tailors investment proposals for individual clients. For the last few years, Angus Moore has been keen on exploring the Mainland China market, covering the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta, the Bohai Economic Rim and Western China. Branches in Canton, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Beijing were created to better capture the investment opportunities.

We are exceptionally pleased to have them onboard and thank them for the assistance that they are giving us.

Everest Base Camp 2013 support Child Action Nepal

The Everest Base Camp Expedition Team are proud to announce their support of Child Action Nepal. Established in 2003, Child Action Nepal, raises money to support orphanages in Nepal of relatively small size (20 to 25 children maximum) with the aim of providing a family atmosphere for the children. The Trust seeks to ensure that those orphanages that it supports provide high quality education and healthcare.
The trust’s first project was The Rhodedendron Children’s Home, in Nepalese Laliguraas Baal Uddhyaan (LBU), situated in the Kathmandu Valley. LBU1 was established in 2002 by former investment banker Florence Krief who had volunteered at an orphanage in the Nepalese capital and was so shocked by its corruption and conditions she decided to found her own. LBU1 is home to 10 boys and 10 girls, mostly teenagers. Two years ago, LBU2 opened and houses 16 children, eight boys and eight girls, aged from four years upwards.

The team will announce their fundraising plans soon and will provide links to our just giving site so that you can support this. We are very excited that we have the opportunity to visit the orphanage when we arrive in Kathmandu before our trek.

Happy New Year! 2012 Update 1.

2012 is already shaping up to be a big year for the team as the training and fundraising steps into gear. The blog had attracted a lot of interest: it has now had over 1000 views of the front page. Thank you to all those that have signed up. Please share the link so that we get even more followers.

Team Update

The team have been very busy over the Christmas holidays. Mr. Watkins successfully summited Mt. Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa (4167m), in an unsupported winter tandem expedition. Whilst there he was testing out a new product for the company Muc-Off (hopefully more on this soon). Mr. Poynter headed for the warmth of Portugal for some surfing. Justin spent the holidays horse riding at home in Jamaica. August, Ollie, Alex and Mr. Watkins all choose to go skiing in Austria whilst Ed opted for Switzerland instead. The boys also did lots of revision for their forthcoming public examinations

‘Mimicking Masters’ Calendar 2012 (supporting Help for Heroes)

Ed Hiscox (Expedition Team Member) and his friend have produced a 2012 Calendar based on Master’s at the school. Ed is selling the calendar as part of the young enterprise programme. The money raised will go towards Help for Heroes.

The calendar features both expedition staff, Mr. Watkins and Mr. Poynter. The calendar is available from Ed for £8.50. Limited edition prints will follow. Please contact Ed at the school if you wish to purchase one. Please support this innovative and well executed idea.

‘Everest and Beyond’ A Talk by Matt Dickinson

The O.S.M.S. presents ‘Everest and Beyond’ a talk by Matt Dickinson on Wednesday the 29th of February. Matt Dickinson is a writer and film maker with an enduring (and occasionally dangerous) fascination for people who push the limits. As a film maker he has worked extensively for National Geographic Television, the Discovery Channel and the BBC and is one of the very few director/cameramen who have ever filmed on the summit of Mount Everest.

The bestselling account of his ascent of Everest’s deadly North Face was published as The Death Zone in the UK, and The Other Side of Everest in the US. Matt’s writing credits also include two novels: High Risk and Black Ice, both published by Random House (UK) and in numerous foreign editions. The first in his adrenaline-fuelled series for teens, Mortal Chaos, will be published by OUP in March 2012.

Please save the date for this exciting evening talk. Further details of this event will follow shortly.
